My New Brand Development & Design Process For 2019
Last year was a struggle for me on a lot of levels and I didn’t take on many clients.
For a while, I wasn’t even sure I’d come back to my business at all. You can read all about how depression almost killed my business in last weeks post.
When I decided to buckle down and get back into my business I took an entire month to evaluate my services and decide what I was going to change to give my clients the most long-term success. After creating the new offering the biggest change was I wasn’t going to be able to help as many people I once was able to.
My once loved process has changed quite a bit, but definitely for more collaboration, and I cannot wait to share with you my new brand development process with you!
The first step in any brand development process is the initial inquiry.
Once someone makes contact with me via my website they will receive an email from me with a link to schedule a 30-minute phone call with me.
During this call, I get to know you and your business pretty broadly. I’ll ask about what you do and how you do it. I’ll uncover the areas of your business you’re most struggling with. This is your opportunity to decide if I am the right fit for your business.
Now that you’re ready to get going on your new brand I will send you a follow-up email with all the information you need to login to your client portal in Dubsado.
Your client portal will have your proposal, contract, and invoice all ready for you to review and sign. Once those are complete we will choose a start date for the project and add you to my calendar.
Thanks to Dubsado your client portal will house everything we need to keep track of for your project. This will cut down on the emails cluttering your inbox and have everything available at your fingertips.
3. Brand Development
Once I get confirmation that you’ve signed your contacts and made your initial payment we will begin the brand development phase of the process. I don’t want to use questionnaires and workbooks going forward, I want to talk directly with you so I fully understand your business.
You will get an email from me to set up 4 1-hour long phone calls with me. These are the most important part of the process.
These calls will allow us to define your:
Mission, Vision, and Values
These phone calls are what will help us define your brand beyond the visuals we create in the next step. All of the information we define in the step will be outlined in your brand guide after the project is complete so you can share it with future employees, collaborators, and designers.
4. Design & Refine
Now it’s time for us to take the heart and soul of your brand that we define in the band development phase and turn it into a ravishing visual identity.
Week 1 Inspiration
Using our favorite visual search engine, Pinterest, you will start collecting images that reflect what you envision for your new identity. From this board, I will create a vision board that we will use to help design your band.
I will also use this board to create your color palette, pattern design, and textures for your brand. You will be given 3 vision boards with color palettes to choose from that will be loaded into your client portal.
Week 2-3 Logo & Other Brand Marks
Once we have your brand vision and color palette set I will design 5 logos for your business that uses your inspiration and the information from the brand development phase. You will be allowed to choose one primary logo and get two rounds of revisions to make sure it’s perfect.
After your primary logo is complete you will also be given 3 alternate logos, and 3 brand marks to choose from and revise the same as your logo.
Week 4-5 Collateral Pieces
What brand is complete without beautiful collateral pieces to send your own clients? This week we will collaborate on your business card, notecard, and envelope design. You’ll be given 3 designs for each to choose from with 1 revision for each.
Week 6 Brand Guide
Every brand needs a way to communicate their entire brand with the outside world. This week I will begin compiling all your brand pieces together into a 5-10 page brand guide.
Your brand guide will include all the discovery from our brand development phase including clearly stating your brand mission and values. It will also include your entire brand identity design and outline how and where to use each element.
Week 7-8 Strategy Session
Now that you have everything you need to brand your business to perfection we will start developing a strategy to launch your brand and build your brand recognition. We will discuss your social media strategy, content calendar, and growth strategies. We will clearly define a few long term goals and develop a roadmap to get you to your goals.
*NOTE: This timeline is an approximation of the time we will spend together creating your brand. In some cases the timeline may move faster or slower depending on quickly we can get designs approved.
5. Final File Delivery
Our time together building your brand is almost over which means it’s time to get all those files in your hand so you can start launching to your fans. We will meet over the phone to walk through your brand and go over and final details and answer any last minute question you may have.
The final files, including your brand guide, will be delivered once you make your final invoice payment and they will be yours to use as you wish.
